Australian Rules is a great game, and my father, Ken Reed, played the sport at the highest possible level with both the Essendon and Williamstown Football Clubs. Even though I didn't inherit all of his natural ability, enough sneaked through to make my time in junior teams quite successful and most enjoyable. I remember that a player in one of the other teams at the football club died of leukaemia at about thirteen years of age. I did not really know him, nor did I know what the disease was. Either the explanation was beyond me, or I hadn't bothered to ask.
